Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hours Worked tool?

The Hours Worked Calculator helps you calculate the total time worked between a start and end time. It automatically deducts break time and shows results in both HH:MM and decimal formats. Perfect for timesheets, payroll, and tracking work hours.

How do breaks affect the total?

Break time is automatically subtracted from the total hours worked. Enter your break duration in minutes, and the calculator will deduct it from the time between your start and end times. For example, 9:00-17:00 with a 30-minute break equals 7.5 hours worked.

Can I calculate overnight shifts?

Yes! When the "Use date" toggle is OFF and your end time is earlier than your start time, the calculator automatically treats it as an overnight shift (ending the next day). For example, 22:00 to 06:00 calculates as 8 hours.

Can I use specific dates?

Yes! Toggle "Use date" to ON to select specific start and end dates. This is useful for multi-day calculations or when you need to track the exact dates worked.

Does this work in my timezone?

Yes, the calculator uses your local timezone automatically. All calculations are performed in your browser using your device's timezone settings.

Can I copy or share the result?

Yes! Click the "Copy" button to copy the complete result to your clipboard, including hours worked, break time, and start/end times. You can then paste it into emails, spreadsheets, or timesheets.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

Completely free with no signup required. Just open the page and start calculating. No ads, no registration, no limits.

Why might my total differ around daylight saving time?

The calculator uses native JavaScript Date arithmetic which correctly handles DST transitions. If you work during a DST change, the actual hours worked may differ by one hour from what you'd expect. The calculator reflects the true elapsed time.
